Broiler cages and floor-rearing systems organise the house differently. The comparison is not just between a cage frame and an open floor: it includes feeding, drinking, environmental equipment and the route used to remove birds. Evaluate both as complete production arrangements for the same building and operating brief.
Map where the birds and equipment will be
A cage proposal divides the occupied space into units and tiers with associated support and service equipment. A floor-rearing proposal distributes equipment within the house at floor level. Request a plan and section for each so that the different use of space is visible.
Show the fixed building features and operating passages on both drawings. Clarify how feeding and drinking equipment is supported, adjusted and accessed. The available floor area alone cannot explain the requirements of a vertically arranged cage installation.

Follow cleaning and material movement
Ask how each system handles residual material and what equipment is included for cleaning or removal. Identify the point where the house equipment hands over to outside handling. The proposed floor or cage arrangement should be coordinated with those routes.
For an existing house, describe the current floor, drainage and support conditions. Retaining the building does not establish that every existing service can be reused. Record what must be changed for each alternative so the comparison includes the actual conversion work.
Compare the harvesting operation
Describe the complete route from the occupied area to the next handling stage. Identify manual tasks, equipment functions, required access and any temporary arrangements during harvesting. Confirm which parts are included in the supplier's package.
The appropriate choice depends partly on how that operation fits the farm's management and facilities. Avoid comparing systems through an unverified universal claim about labour, growth or profitability. Ask for the operating assumptions behind any performance estimate supplied for the project.
Put both proposals on a shared basis
- Same building information and intended production brief.
- Clearly stated capacity and stocking assumptions.
- Complete feeding, drinking and environmental scope.
- Cleaning, manure or litter handling and harvesting arrangements.
- Installation changes, service access and training requirements.
The final selection should be reviewed against the farm's applicable production and welfare requirements. Famou Machinery's floor-rearing and broiler-cage product directions can start that discussion, but the final order should name the actual configuration. A side-by-side equipment schedule is more useful than deciding from the labels floor system and cage system alone.
