Cattle fence panels should be evaluated as connected sections with posts, gates and terrain interfaces. The strength or size of one loose panel does not define the complete fence arrangement. Begin with a site plan and the purpose of each fence line.

Mark the route and use

Show the enclosure or working area, gates, corners and changes in level. Describe the cattle group and intended use of the barrier. The final arrangement needs to be assessed against the farm's requirements, not selected from a general panel photograph.

For an extension, identify the existing panel and post references where possible. Photograph the connections. A new section should not be assumed compatible merely because its height is similar.

Compare construction and connections

Request tube or member details, material, finish and the assembly drawing. Ask how adjacent panels connect and how gates or end sections differ. Include the supplied pins, brackets or fasteners in the component list.

The supporting posts and foundations require the relevant design information for the actual installation. Do not infer their adequacy from the panel description alone. Assign responsibility for locally supplied supports and ground works.

Review access and replacement

Show how gates operate and how the barrier interacts with working routes. Identify the movement needed for animals, people and equipment. A gate connection should be reviewed with the panel arrangement rather than added to a completed fence line as an afterthought.

Ask how a damaged section can be removed and replaced. Keeping component references helps the farm maintain the barrier without introducing an incompatible connector or an unrecorded modification.

Check the delivered arrangement

  • Panel types and quantities match the route plan.
  • End, corner and gate components are identified.
  • Connection and support details are confirmed.
  • Accessible joints and edges are inspected.
  • Installation changes are recorded on the final drawing.

Compare suppliers on the same fence route and scope. A panel-only price may omit posts, gates and connecting hardware that another proposal includes. The most useful purchasing document describes an installed barrier system with clear interfaces, allowing the receiving team to check not just the number of panels but whether the site has all the parts needed for the intended arrangement.
