Ceiling air inlets place the air-entry connection within the ceiling or overhead arrangement of a livestock house. Butterfly and other ceiling-mounted configurations can have different movement and mounting details. Compare the exact assemblies and how they fit the building's air path.
Draw the section above and below the inlet
Show the ceiling construction, space above it and the occupied area below. Identify services or structural members that may obstruct installation or movement. The ventilation designer needs to understand where the inlet receives air as well as where it discharges.
For a retrofit, record the existing opening and accessible fixing surfaces. A ceiling panel should not be assumed to provide the required support for a new assembly. Confirm the support and building connection with the responsible designer and supplier.

Compare movement and control
Ask how the butterfly or alternative mechanism opens and what controls it. Identify any linkage, actuator or other supplied component. The quotation should state whether these parts are included and how the assembly connects to the farm's control system.
Check the full movement envelope. Clearances should be reviewed with the ceiling, nearby pipes and access arrangements in place. A mechanism that moves freely in a loose sample may be obstructed after installation.
Plan inspection from the start
Identify the safe method of reaching seals, connections and moving components. Ask which parts can be removed and how they are replaced. Overhead placement should not leave the operator without a planned service approach.
Cleaning and inspection procedures should match the supplied material and mechanism. If the inlet is part of a linked system, document how a local component is isolated or taken out of service without an unplanned effect on the rest of the arrangement.
Commission the actual installation
- Confirm the model and mounting arrangement.
- Check permitted movement and relevant connections.
- Verify sealing and the building interface.
- Record the control and ventilation checks required by the design.
- Hand over component references and access instructions.
The final choice between ceiling-inlet options should be supported by the house section and system design. Neither a butterfly description nor a nominal opening establishes the appropriate operating setting. Keep the accepted configuration with the ventilation records so future replacement or adjustment can be assessed against the intended arrangement.
