Farm Dosing Pump Calibration: Equipment Checks and Records

Dosing-pump calibration should follow the procedure for the exact model and the authorised application. The purpose is to verify the equipment's proportioning behaviour under defined conditions. It does not establish which medicine, treatment or concentration should be supplied to animals.

Prepare the identification and reference information

Record the pump model, configuration and scale units. Obtain the manufacturer's verification method and identify the reference measurements it requires. Use suitable measuring equipment and competent personnel, with any test liquid or procedure approved for the application.

Check the installation before adjusting the pump. A supply condition outside the model's limits, an unsuitable connection or a damaged component should not be concealed by changing the indicated ratio.

Record individual measurements

Follow the specified method and retain the input and output observations used to assess performance. Note the operating conditions, selected setting and measurement units. Repeated results are more informative than a single value chosen because it is close to the expected result.

Keep any calculation traceable to its measured quantities. If the pump scale and the verification method express ratio differently, resolve the units with the manufacturer before interpreting the result. Do not improvise a treatment concentration from an unfamiliar scale.

Investigate an inconsistent result

Review the supply, suction arrangement and components identified by the troubleshooting procedure. Record air, leakage, obstruction or wear where observed. Follow the relevant isolation and handling instructions before servicing the equipment.

Make only the adjustments permitted by the documentation and record each change. If a part is replaced, retain its reference and repeat the required verification before returning the system to the authorised use.

The record should state what was verified and under which conditions. It should not be used as a claim that the pump is accurate for every liquid, flow or future setting.
