Famou Machinery By Famou Machinery

A stopped feed line should be investigated before it is restarted. Repeatedly resetting a drive does not identify whether the cause is material accumulation, a mechanical defect or an unavailable receiving point. Record the symptom and follow the model's stopping, isolation and troubleshooting instructions.

Preserve the operating evidence

Note the line section, destination being supplied and the indication shown by the controls. Record whether the problem followed a feed change, maintenance action or unusual start sequence. This information helps distinguish a recurring location from a one-off event.

Check the documentation for the meaning of an alarm or trip. Similar messages on different controllers may have different causes. Do not bypass a protective device to keep the line operating.

Inspect only after appropriate isolation

Before opening guards or accessing moving assemblies, follow the equipment's isolation procedure and the site's safe-working arrangements. Stored material or mechanical tension may remain relevant after the motor has stopped; the instructions for the actual system should govern access.

Inspect the permitted points identified in the manual. Look for the condition of the material, an obstruction at an inlet or discharge, or a damaged component. Record the location rather than clearing several areas without noting where the problem was found.

Separate material and mechanical causes

A change in feed condition may require a different investigation from a worn conveying component. Compare the feed description with the system's specified application and note any recent change. For a damaged part, identify the correct model and replacement reference.

Do not mix nominally similar chain, discs, auger or pipe components without compatibility confirmation. An incorrect replacement can create another problem even if it appears to fit during assembly.

Return the line to service by procedure

  • Record the original symptom and identified cause where known.
  • Complete the approved clearing or repair action.
  • Restore guards and connections as required.
  • Use the manufacturer's controlled restart checks.
  • Observe and record whether the original symptom returns.

If the cause remains uncertain, provide the supplier with the alarm, route location, material description and inspection findings. Avoid assigning a universal reset sequence or motor setting to all feed lines. The objective is to restore the particular system correctly and retain enough evidence to prevent the same failure from becoming a routine cycle of stoppage and reset.
