FRP and galvanized steel feed silos should be compared for the same storage duty and site. Material is one difference, but foundation requirements, filling connections, discharge arrangement and inspection access can also affect the purchase. Begin with the required usable capacity and feed characteristics, then review the two complete proposals.
Establish equivalent capacity
Ask each supplier how the quoted storage capacity is defined and which feed density it assumes. A volume figure and a nominal tonnage are not interchangeable without that information. Confirm that both proposals address the same feed and delivery interval.
Show the discharge connection and the feed conveyor served by the silo. An attractive storage specification is not sufficient if the outlet or supporting arrangement does not match the planned conveying equipment.

Compare the actual construction
For the FRP option, request the product's construction description and relevant operating limitations. For galvanized steel, identify the panel, connection and finish specifications. Ask which components use other materials, including supports, access parts and purchased fittings.
Neither material name provides a complete durability assessment. Give the supplier the site's exposure conditions and intended cleaning and inspection routine. Ask for supporting documentation where a performance characteristic is important to the decision, rather than relying on a general claim that one material is always superior.
Review installation and service access
Obtain the foundation and support requirements for each proposed model. The final structural design must use the actual equipment loads and local site information. Do not reuse the foundation assumptions from one silo design for another without confirmation.
Identify how operators inspect the outlet and accessible external components. Ask about the method for replacing supplied fittings and the availability of identified parts. Internal entry or other hazardous maintenance requires the appropriate specialist procedures; a procurement comparison should not invent a universal cleaning method.
Compare lifetime responsibilities, not promises
- Usable capacity and feed-density basis.
- Construction and finish of all supplied components.
- Foundation, filling and discharge interfaces.
- Inspection requirements and replacement-part availability.
- Installation scope and documented warranty terms.
Famou Machinery offers both FRP and steel silo directions. The better fit for a particular farm should emerge from the shared storage requirement, site constraints and complete supply scope. Record the reasons for the choice so a future extension can be evaluated against the same assumptions rather than repeating a material preference without the original evidence.
