Pig drinking bowls should be selected for the intended animal group and the way they are installed. Bowl shape, valve arrangement, mounting and cleaning access need to be considered together. A stainless steel description or an outside diameter alone does not establish the appropriate model for every pen.
Position the bowl on the pen plan
Show the bowl in relation to the feeder, gate and partition. Identify the intended approach and the available fixing surface. For a replacement, record the old mounting pattern and water connection rather than assuming the new product uses the same details.
Describe the animal group to the supplier and ask which model is proposed for that use. Installation position and operating conditions should follow the model guidance and the farm's management requirements. Avoid copying an arbitrary height from another installation without reviewing the equipment and animals involved.

Identify the valve and supply requirements
Ask which drinking or valve components are included and request the required connection and operating information. Confirm how the unit is isolated and how the valve is accessed. The bowl should not be mounted so that a routine service part is hidden behind a fixed partition.
Where several bowls share a supply, have the water arrangement assessed for the intended use. A visible connection does not prove that every endpoint receives the required supply under operating conditions. Use the appropriate commissioning method for the installed system.
Examine cleaning and replacement access
Request close views of the interior, edges and attachment points. Identify how retained material is removed and whether components are detachable. Check cleaning-product compatibility for the bowl, valve, seals and other supplied parts.
Keep the model and component references in the room record. A replacement valve that appears similar may not fit or operate as intended in another bowl. Obtain compatibility confirmation before substituting parts.
Include the complete assembly in the enquiry
- Animal group and proposed bowl location.
- Bowl model, material and mounting arrangement.
- Valve, connection and service-access details.
- Relevant water-supply information.
- Cleaning instructions and replacement references.
Compare offers on that installed scope. The cheapest loose bowl may not include the valve or brackets shown in its photograph. A complete specification makes it clearer what arrives, how it is connected and which parts the operator will need to inspect during routine use.
