Famou Machinery By Famou Machinery

Pig manure drain plugs should be identified by their connection and sealing arrangement, not only by a visible top diameter. A replacement that looks similar can still differ at the seat, stem or removal feature. Begin with the installed drain reference and the supplier's method for identifying the correct part.

Record the actual connection

Provide photographs and accessible measurements requested by the supplier. Identify the drain or pipe system if its reference is known. Distinguish the opening dimension from the sealing dimension; they may not represent the same measurement.

Describe the reason for replacement, such as visible damage or an observed sealing problem. Do not assume the plug is the only affected component. The corresponding seat or connection may also need assessment under the equipment instructions.

Compare material and geometry

Ask for the plug model, material and dimensional drawing relevant to the connection. Identify any seal or separate component included. A general material description does not prove compatibility with the existing drain assembly.

Check the method used to insert and remove the plug. The farm should have the specified access and tools where required. Avoid improvised modifications that make the part difficult to identify or remove later.

Plan inspection under appropriate procedures

Drain and manure systems can present hazards beyond the loose component itself. Inspection, opening and any work near pits or enclosed spaces should follow the site's appropriate specialist procedures. This purchasing guide does not provide a drain-opening or entry method.

Record which areas could be inspected and which require further assessment. When the condition of a concealed seat is unknown, state that limitation to the supplier rather than assuming a new plug will resolve the issue.

Keep replacement information usable

  • Drain or system reference and location.
  • Plug and seal dimensions confirmed by the supplier.
  • Material and component list.
  • Approved insertion, removal and inspection instructions.
  • Date and reason for replacement.

Once the correct part is established, retain its reference with a photograph. That allows subsequent orders to use an identified component rather than repeating a visual comparison each time. If the problem recurs, the record also helps distinguish a damaged plug from a condition elsewhere in the drain and sealing arrangement.
