Famou Machinery By Famou Machinery

A sow feed dispenser's scale is a reference on the device, not a substitute for checking the amount delivered with the feed actually used on the farm. Different material conditions or an incorrectly assembled mechanism can make a familiar-looking setting produce an unexpected result. A controlled check creates a baseline before routine use.

Identify what the scale represents

Read the instructions for the exact dispenser model. Determine whether the markings describe a volume, a nominal feed amount or a position of the adjustment mechanism. Record the units and any stated operating conditions. Do not relabel a scale as kilograms merely because operators commonly discuss feed in kilograms.

Inspect the dispenser for retained material, damaged parts or an outlet that does not close as intended. Check its mounting and the way feed enters. The test should use an assembled unit in a condition representative of service, not a loose component held at an arbitrary angle.

Measure a repeated delivery

Use a suitable weighing instrument and a clean collection container. Account for the container's weight, set the dispenser according to its instructions and collect the delivered feed. Repeat the check at the same setting, recording each result rather than retaining only the most convenient reading.

Record the feed description and relevant condition with the measurement. If a different feed is introduced later, the old result may no longer describe the new material. The check is about delivery by the equipment; it does not determine the nutritional allowance for the sow.

Investigate inconsistent results

When repeated amounts differ, look for an explanation before changing the scale. Confirm the starting fill condition, complete discharge, movement of the mechanism and any material left in corners. Follow the supplier's troubleshooting guidance for that model.

Check one variable at a time. If the mechanism is damaged or cannot hold its position, adjusting farther is not a repair. Record the component reference and obtain the correct replacement or technical advice.

Keep a usable baseline

  • Dispenser model and identification within the room.
  • Setting, scale units and feed description.
  • Individual measured deliveries and the weighing method.
  • Inspection findings and any adjustment or replacement made.
  • Date and person completing the check.

Retain the record where the operator can find it. It provides a reference after maintenance, a feed change or a suspected delivery problem. When discussing an unexplained result with the supplier, share the individual readings and photographs of the scale and outlet; a single statement that the dispenser is inaccurate leaves too many possible causes unresolved.
